Fidan To Address Gaza, Iran Tensions at G20 Meeting in Atlanta
According to Turkish diplomatic sources, Fidan is expected to speak during Friday’s sessions on Geopolitical Tensions, Energy and Supply Chains.
During his remarks, Fidan is expected to call for greater international pressure on Israel over its continued attacks and uncompromising position, which he is expected to argue are hindering global efforts to secure peace in Gaza.
He is also expected to express Türkiye’s hope that tensions between the United States and Iran can be settled through dialogue and diplomacy, while warning that continued hostilities are deepening regional vulnerabilities.
Fidan is expected to highlight the impact of attacks on vessels and energy infrastructure across the Black Sea, the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Gulf region. Such incidents are disrupting global energy and food security, as well as international trade, he is expected to say.
He is also expected to emphasize the need to safeguard freedom of navigation and maintain security along strategically important waterways.
The Turkish foreign minister is further expected to address the escalating Russia-Ukraine conflict and the risks that the fighting could spread to additional areas.
He is expected to note that Türkiye remains in communication with both sides in efforts to restore security in the Black Sea.
Fidan is also expected to reaffirm Türkiye’s commitment to resolving regional disputes and strengthening security and stability through an approach based on regional ownership.
He is expected to conclude by stressing the importance of constructive cooperation with international partners to address ongoing challenges.
